Our website will be undergoing essential maintenance on Tuesday 24 June, 8–10pm. A short downtime of 3–5 minutes is expected between this time while we complete the work. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Professional bodies typically promote the profession, represent their members and provide curriculum frameworks, training and CPD.

Whilst these organisations are separate from the HCPC, their role may be complementary to ours.

Professional bodies for dietitians include:

British Dietetic Association (BDA)

The BDA, founded in 1936, is the professional association and trade union for the whole of the dietetic profession in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is the nation’s largest organisation of food and nutrition professionals with over 11,200 members. BDA membership is open to the whole dietetic workforce, from registered dietitians and the dietetic support workforce, to dietetic students and apprentices, both UK-based and overseas. They also have categories for qualified nutritionists and sports nutritionists, as well as those with an occupational interest in food and nutrition. They act as both a professional body and trade union.

Other organisations

We work closely with both trade unions and professional bodies. Some professional bodies we work with are themselves trade unions or have close formal links to them. You can find more information about the other organisations we work with on the trade unions section.
